I haven't played a Pokémon game since emerald. What's a good Pokémon game on switch? I'm curious as to what it looks like these days. There seems to be a lot of shovelware on the store, and I have no idea which ones to avoid. Which ones are trash?

If you want classic pokemon formula, Sword or Shield
If you want the classic formula but more seamless and dynamic then Legends Arceus
If you want more simplified pokemon experience, Let's go Pikachu/Eevee
If you want to be the pokemon, Mystery dungeon DX
If you just wanna chill while taking pictures of pokemon doing cute things, New Pokemon Snap
Some other games are fun if you like their respective genre, such as Unite or Pokken
Avoid gen4 remakes like fire

Just play HGSS and BW/BW2. Maybe Platinum or USUM. Anything else would feel like a downgrade after playing Emerald.

Avoid HGSS, it's total garbage. Every other game is fine, though I'd suggest you play them in order from Platinum to PLA.
