What is your favorite region design wise?

My favorite is Hoenn. Growing up as a 7 year old boy Dalit in the slums of New Delhi, I encountered a used GameBoy Advance, lying on the streets by a Dosa shop. Along with a cartridge of Pokeman Sapphire, with the sticker halfway peeled off.

I have wonderful memories of Hoenn. With the tropical climate, shining beaches, and the sweet music of Route 104, 119, and 120. Hoenn has much to offer!

Hoenn as well.
People who started with gen 5 or later probably won’t agree but backtracking is a massive plus for region design if done well. Certain parts of each region contain stuff you’ll wanna be backtracking to (like the game corner), so having the player naturally visit these areas multiple times throughout their adventure feels like a natural way of facilitating that, way better than simply giving the player fly so they can warp back to any spot if they choose. Gens 2-4 all feel like they do this really well, but hoenn does it the best for sure, you backtrack a lot but there’s ALWAYS something you’ll wanna do in these areas as you pass through them so really it just feels like they’re getting the most out of these areas, making them feel like real parts of the region. It makes each place feel more memorable.
