Steven is the only other character besides Red to be an end boss. He has always been treated at the same level as Cynthia lore wise. Hell, she's his clone to begin with. Steven is just a really cool guy with a powerful team and theme. Deal with it.

Steven and Cynthia have always been highly praised as being the strongest champions by the fanbase. I'm amazed that they are actually top 3 in the anime, they could have easily put a Kanto rep above them, and Lance did have the number 2 position before.

Land Champion. Steel, Ground and Rock. Still it has a lot of his identity, since it includes the fossils (he's a miner, and his Devon can revive fossils) and three steel mons (and he's a huge steelfag, as he shows in HGSS). Fuck, he even asks you at a certain point in the Hoenn games whether you would go monotype or not, like he was debating whether to go full mono-steel or spice it up like he eventually did.
