Someone on the anime team must hate Lance.
They make him job to Leon in a 1v1 Dynamax battle where Lance has type advantage. They refuse to let him use his ace, Dragonite. They retcon his uniform to being inspired by the Galar dragon gym. And now they're gonna make him job to Ash.

Someone who owns the Animedia magazine read it, and it doesn't actually mention Ash battling Lance. It just reintroduces Lance as a character, says that he wants to battle Leon, and says that he's still a government agent.

Being a member of the Dragon egg group. Such as Gyarados, Charizard, Dragonair, Dragonite, Kingdra, Salamence, Garchomp, Altaria, Flygon, Haxrous and Hydreigon who are all Pokemon he has used.

The only non-Dragon pokemon he has used are Aerodactyl and Alolan Exeggutor. However, Alolan Exeggutor is a Dragon-type and Aerodactyl is a pterosaur which are referred to as 'winged dragons' in Japanese and has been called a dragon in the Pewter museum in several generations.

Nobody knows. The only rules we know are that each battle is a 3v3 and you can only use one of Mega Evolution, Z-Move or Dynamax in each battle

If it was seeded like a real tournament, Ash would battle Leon right off the bat.

But for the sake of the narrative, it makes more sense to have it as:

>2nd vs 6th
>3rd vs 7th
>4th vs 8th

Iris is a Dragon specialist, but she uses Lapras, Archeops, and Aggron

Raihan uses a Gigalith, a Sandaconda, and a Torkoal.

Dragon specialists don't have to stick to Dragon types, anything vaguely reptilian counts a dragon to them.
