Pokemon protagonists are also presented with a certain "averageness" to them, kinda like telling the player that anyone could be a great trainer if they jumped into the Pokemon world and really wanted to. They make the protagonist (male and female) intercheageable, the one you pick has the more interesting storyline. Then there's the fact that most of them have brown hair while NPC's get the fancy anime/femishit hair colors.
