From the start only Japan liked the Bulbasaur line.

The rest of the world during Global Pokemania Gen 1 was all about Charmander and Squirtle.

these recent bulbasaur love is the result years of being shilled in Social medias.
Tumblrs, Twitter etc.
Bulbasaur is the underdog and the losers pick, it's the relatable choice.
