Ash losing here is the obvious outcome, so if he does, the floods of people gloating about it as if they made some god-tier prediction and it somehow "proves" Ash is a terrible trainer will be insufferable.
Ash winning would actually be a surprise, and it will bring on all the people calling it an asspull by the writers, or somehow claiming it doesn't count, or that it should have happened back in XY, blah blah blah.
Personally, I think the former would be more annoying, but we'll just have to see
