Personally, I would like a FRLG remake, but only if we get Johto as well.
I want a full Region travelling game, not the old game with a new shade of paint, and harder mechanics (comparing it with it's old predecesors).
I want to travel the world, not being stuck in Kanto at one moment,Johto the next, Hoenn after that.
No, I want airports, ships, trains that take me to them. An open world scenario (that isn't copying Breath of the Wild).

I think of FRLG and HGSS as necessary by virtue of having no connectivity with Gen I or II, but not so much Gen III onwards. By that point, I wanted sequels that fixed issues in the originals. ORAS were Ohmori-fied, LGPE were utterly unnecessary, and BDSP were completely underwhelming.

Split versions are also unnecessary. Who honestly thinks that the games are better for having content locked off? Just make certain Pokémon really rare so that they're worth searching out and trading for over finding them yourself, but still allow for that option to find them. Do what Tajiri's pitch details and allow for multiple exchanges for one Pokémon so you can get make up for rarity with platitudes. We honestly could have had a world like

He's missing the points of why they do remakes. It's easier to just modify something existing than to make something original. And this way new generations of players can experience those games updated to mostly modern gaming standards.

Remakes are made with an entirely different aim in mind to what adults think they're being done for. They're made to sell kids on the older pokémon that haven't been explicitly featured in the latest Gen (to the point Game Freak deliberately withheld several Sinnoh lines from SS, to guarantee sales of BDSP or Legends)

The issue is that after HGSS, the remakes started to not include content the OG third versions had, the series itself started to drop features between gens more then ever, and now each gamedoesn't have every pokemon

Under the current status quo, yes, remakes are pointless: A hypothetical gen 5 remake would invariably include less content then BW/2
