the stuff on the left is a bit more questionable though, like I can see people specifically trashing mon that they think look uglier due to markings or something, feels like implementing that'd be placing too much emphasis on aesthetics over connection

I'd say some hue shifts/bringing back alternate colors from older generations and maybe an alternate mark or two not counting gender differences would work.

It's personally my favorite thing. Regional forms brought me back into Pokemon, and they're he number one thing I look for.

Giving them a mild change like pattern or something like leaf or horn shape would give me incentive to catch them again to add to the living dex.

They're pretty cool and I don't think many would argue against having it, but if the variations were more complex and great in number like in that OP image it would create a lot of work and most likely limit the pool of pokemon available by a good amount, so you'd probably have to either take that trade off or leave the variations to be more simple.

Would be cool, but it's super unrealistic to make several different shapes/models for all mons in a game. Shape/pattern variatons can work, just like Spinda. But since we're dealing with Game Fr*ck, don't expect anything major to happen. They even mostly omitted gender differences.

It would be enough jut have lightness/darkness and hue shifts. Changing larger elements like the size and shape of body parts or accents would threaten to break the creature design.

Anyway, those are all great, and color variants should be plentiful and common for most lines. Fuck rarity for collector autists, I just want my color coordination autism satisfied for my playthrough. Let the shiny collectors keep the shiny "sparkle" effect as the rare aspect, and give us the damn color variants (including the ones that are currently locked as shinies).

That's the point. I know Pokémon isn't real life, but there's subtle differences in animals in the real world. Makes things unique. I know I'm in the minority, but I honestly prefer shinies that are in the same general color family over "make it black and edgy."

More unique mons means a better experience in my opinion. Legends Arceus was fun simply because I could capture really big Shinies. If they add other variations I’ll gladly collect them

I think small details like this would go miles to making the world of pokémon feel more alive, and each pokémon to feel like an individual.

The Main Issue would be replicating this system all future installments, you'd need to make sure that each possible variation stays consistent, and you'd also be setting the president that all future Pokémon need to be given variations like this.

I think the best scenario would to give a few Pokémon one or two variations, or implement it in a spin-off where it could be better appreciated.

Texturing a cartoon animal is a trivial matter. The most difficult part of those variations would be the bulb types. A good chunk of them can be done automatically, the most difficult texture would the pattern but even that could be a case of "Do it once and apply".

A lot of these can be automated, since it's just texture work, could work realisticly, the hard one is the shape, but if it's not a super big part of a design that a new rigging would be necessary I don't see it being too hard, a lot of time but not hard.
