Yes and no. To be fair, people only really look back at Colo/GoD fondly because bosses used actual strats as opposed to amalgamations of individual Pokemon that fit the trainer, i.e. Gym Leaders and E4 being stuck on monotype. In a cruel twist of fate, the only battles where strategies/archtypes were considered to implement outside of Battle Facilities were in BDSP at the final rematches of the game, objectively the worst remakes in the series (kudos to anyone who made it that far in those games).
Double battle only games can be really good, but if you have played Mt. Battle in Colosseum, they can also be really bad. A GameFreak centered double battle game would have as much thought put into trainer teams as the various trainers in Mt. Battle.
