They're literally just shooting a magic beam of light. It has nothing to do with the sun beyond the sun giving more light to work with so it can charge up faster. The less light is available, the more effort they have to put into generating it themselves.

Because that's how Pokemon moves literally work. There's no point in trying to pretend that these clearly magical creatures aren't performing magic when they make leaves, boulders, and tidal waves appear out of nowhere.

Razor Leaf is used like explosive balls in the new seaons while it used as cutting leaves in older seasons.
the anime staff don't play pokemon and don't know shit about pokemon that's why they keep making pikachu OHKOing everything while Charizard is immune from water moves

The point still stands, Pokemon battles have never followed any kind of logic. Everyone has plot armor until the writer decides they don't anymore. No matter how many super-effective hits a Pokemon, it won't faint until the writer say so. And that's true in everything, whether it's a game, an anime, or a manga.
