Hello! This is my first time on /vp/ so I'm unsure of where to ask this question but, how does someone get into competitive Pokémon? I have ZERO experience in competitive Pokémon, but I want to start getting into it a bit more. Any videos or guides or anything I should be on the lookout for? Any help is appreciated.

I'll bite the bait.

Most people go by the meta of Smogon, google that for more information, it'll be more help than 4chan.

You might also want to look into Pokemon Showdown, a simulator that allows you to test your builds in a controlled setting before you put in the effort in the game.

Pokeaimmd has some good videos for beginners to competitive, but that is under smogon rules only. If you are unfamiliar with smogon, essentially it is a fan made set of rules that people agree to play under, which divides all pokemon into tiers based on usage in battles (ex, the pokemon used the most places in the "Over-Used tier" which in theory balances out the game allows some of the weaker pokemon to have usability in lower tiered formats. Pokemon Showdown is the best battle simulator, and is free to play, and has an online ladder for players in each usage tier, so if you just start out, you will be playing people closer to tour skill level.
