>>50430593>Do you like the concept of "third version games" at all?The nice thing about Emerald or Platinum was having a more "definitive" experience with their respective games. A re-release gives them a chance to tweak parts of the story, update aesthetics, address player criticisms, etc. And years later, people will always opt to play that version when going back to older generations.
I think BW2 was a better model to run with, because fills a similar role without replacing the original game. They added classic Pokemon back, expanded on the map and offered more content. While continuing the story instead of rewriting it. It helps that BW1's story was mostly well put together, and didn't even call for a re-release. You can play the first and second games together as one complete experience. Even connect your save files to earn special rewards, or characters referring to your previous player by name, and so on.
USUM is weird, and seems like it didn't need to exist. It's a 3rd Version, but split into two games instead of "Stars/Eclipse/Prism". The story rewrites almost seem to regret the original entirely, turning Lusamine into some weirdo anti-hero and resolving Lillie's narrative off-screen. Most of the Ultra Space stuff still feels unfinished, with dimensions being linear pathways to the UB. URS is awkwardly stuffed into random moments across the map just to spout exposition. I just don't get the purpose of this one. SM like BW already had a pretty solid narrative, and didn't need to be "fixed".
XY and SwSh could've benefited from a rewrite more than a sequel, but after USUM I don't even know if I'd want one.
