The discord defends newer gens over earlier gens. They only defend Kalos when it's compared to gens prior to it; they shit on it when it's compared to Gen 8.
Their general pecking order is:
Gen 8 > Gen 7 > Gen 6 > everything before is shit except Gen 1 because people hate Kanto pandering
/vp/ hates Gen 6, so the discord must defend it out of attention-seeking contrarianism, but /vp/ hates Gen 8 even more, so Gen 8 gets priority defense in a discordfag argument. You can see this with Megas; /vp/ prefers Megas over Dynamax, so discord shits on Megas even though it's part of Gen 6.
