Personally, my issue with FRLG, is that the game doesn't have a lot of content after you beat the Sevii Islands.

There is no equivalent to Contests or Secret Bases (two things that the other Gen 3 games introduced).

I also dislike that they didn't bother to make moving sprites for FRLG, when Crystal had already introduced that feature.

I liked it when it first came out but nowadays, I prefer just playing Shin Pokemon Red. The gen 3 engine and sprites just doesn't have the same nostalgia value for me. If I had to play again, I'd patch it with Pokemon Throwback.

I think this is the only remake that has good remastered tracks, especially the trainer battle and the champion battle. I just don't understand why Team Rocket doesn't have a proper theme, same for the legendaries and Mewtwo.

The sound font ruins the soundtrack and the sprites are wonky. Maybe it’s because every rom hack uses FRLG and RSE as a base, but FRLG seems the most generic game. If I want to play Kanto, I’ll just play HGSS.

The guitar is just awful in this game and they use it in almost every single track.
I will concede that the champion battle is great in FRLG, but it's only because the cacophony of noise actually complements that composition well.

the help system is neat and i think most players both new and old would find that more tolerable then getting stopped every few seconds for a quick tutorial in future games. surprised they didn't bring it back (unless they did i never played swsh)
the extra animations are cute too but get tiresome quick
outside of other new visuals and fixes from gen 3 it's still kanto, which i feel is bland compared to other regions and i'm surprised lgpe didn't expand on the whole "up and coming technological advancement region" that seemed to be implied with all kanto games prior

I think they should have done a little more to spice up trainer varieties in the mid game. you get swamped with so many of the same poison types from the time you get out of dark cave, to the time you clear the mansion. the last time I nuzlocked it, a haunter with psychic totally invalidated half the game.
this is not a big deal, but the only real complaint I could think of.

theyre good at being basic yet substantial
the colours and overworld have a soft and relaxing quality
the structure of Kanto just feels satisfying
overall a standard Pokemon experience that lends itself well to replaying especially with Kanto's dex being one of the best for team building options
i just wish they had more side content

Lmao okay. Moving on. The GBA has the exact same sound as the GB but with additional channels. If you're comparing it to home consoles it's not very good but it's still a direct upgrade to the original GameBoy.

They’re better games to play through than RBY just simply because of the improved battle system. My only serious complaint for these games is the Johto friendship evolutions being Natdex only. In terms of remakes they’re better than BDSP but worse than HGSS/ORAS

I though it was ok. I mean, I played Yellow and to this day I feel is the "complete Kanto" because there's no restrictions with the pokemon (OG 151, and nothing else), while fixing some things of R/B/G.
Now, I played as Leaf because she looks like a giant button, so I'm like "haha, moving button coming thru".
This was the adventure:

I forgot Sabrina on purpose because fuck Sylph's teleporters. That part is more a hassle, it's not fun.
I'm not interested in the postgame. Those 7 islands may be interesting, but the way to unlock them are annoying, and a bit of a problem in emulation. Codes can break the game, and I don't feel like replaying the game now.

They're decent remakes. Stamps out the bugs/glitches that were so prevalent in the original. Updates the mechanics up to Gen 3 standards, like held items and breeding and abilities. Also has newer Johto and Hoenn pokemon / moves available in the game's code. Also added new areas to visit like the Sevii islands.

The bad news is that the remake's sprite art has less soul than the original RBY. The reason for that is because Gen 3 is when Gamefreak started halfassing the graphics of their games. Red/Blue/Yellow has soul because the devs went the extra mile to push the original Gameboy to its limits. Making it one of the best looking / best sounding games on the handheld. Meanwhile Gamefreak's Gen 3 games pale in comparison to other GBA contemporaries like Golden Sun, which pushed the GBA to its graphical/audio limits. Imagine how much better this remake could have looked/sounded if Gamefreak bothered to go the extra mile.
