Prior to the pokeball's invention. Humans had to rely on man made or tamed pokemon.
>Gen 1 had domesticated Growlithe.
>Gen 2 had the Bellsprout monks and the Unown ruins.
>Gen 3 had Baltoy guarding ruins and wandering the desert.
>Gen 4 had Bronzor found in ruins and legends of them helping with agriculture. Summoning rain with it's evolved form.
>Gen 5 had Golett, Sigilyph and Yamask in ruins and wandering routes that used to be parts of ancient civilizations.
>Gen 6 had Honedge serving as vessels for dead knights who remained loyal to the king.
>Gen 7 had the Island deities.
It kinda stopped with Gen 8 and Legends Arceus ignored this altogether. Are we rectonning this in favor of ancient pokeballs and friendlier wild pokemon? Seems like wild pokemon attacking human settlements was the point of having a designated guardian.
