>No replay valueDP. Bland distribution and small dex size makes them feel stagnant.
>ThrowawaySwsh, without a doubt. They fall short in most places; story, difficulty, region design but the worst thing is how cobbled together it feels. I say it's a throwaway because it seems like no effort was made to make the game coherent. The wild area is the perfect representation of this - The visuals for that area are bland amd it wasn't until the DLC that more environments were used. It felt like a free camera test they put in the game to pad out the gameplay after the poor story
This brings me to my bugman rabbit hole theory Back in 2016, Masuda and Ohmori were reading comments from some forum and there was a guy called MisterHiro or some shit that wanted a fully open world Pokemon game. Both of them reacted excitedly and said they were working on such a game. SM, LGPE, swsh, PLA came and went and there's still no open world title. Then SV gets revealed and the sites all say it's open world, something they've never advertised a game as before. I think that gen 8 was just one giant testing period where they learned to create more open environments and they've been working towards SV in one way or another since at least 2016. This won't mean SV will be good, but it explains why gen 8 was so shit, at least for me.
