-Iconic Gen 1 Mon and Jigglypuff was the original 12, though if it had to replaced, I would choose Gengar

-It really should be all of them in their final stages, Red’s most iconic fights use all 3 of them fully evolved, can also add FRLG Blue as another alt

-Unrealistic to have a rep for every current region, especially as the series continues on, also since Ultimate is the most recent game, would have to have a rep of the most recent gen at the time of its release, Alola)

I think we could lose Pichu without much complaint.
Incineroar could, too. Like Greninja, but without the staying power.
Jigglypuff too, though the Melee-nostalgic crowd wouldn't like that.
We've lost Pokemon Trainer w/ Squirtle and Ivysaur before, we can again.
Mewtwo's been cut before too, but there was a reason he was the first Smash 4 DLC.
Lucario's *the* shillmon. Would be hard to see him cut.
Greninja's *the* most popular Pokemon in the world. Another hard cut.
There's a reason Charizard from KANTOOO came back without Pokemon Trainer.
And of course Pikachu isn't going anywhere.

As far as newcomers, gotta look at unrepresented Gens, plus what lies ahead in Gen IX.

I will say though that I think Pokken has a near perfect roster and I don't understand why people shit on it

I honestly think the Gen 1 mons are the best reps by far. Not that I think Gen 1 is the best, but barring Pichu, all of the later gen reps have the issue of being humanoids with relatively common fighting styles. Compared to every other series, I feel like Pokemon offers the greatest potential for filling the roster with entirely unique archetypes and movesets with nearly 1000 potential choices, but the only reps that ever get picked are ones that offer very little that couldn't just be replicated by some other humanoid character.
PT might contribute to a bit of bloat in terms of Gen 1 representation, but it is legitimately the perfect rep in every sense of the word:
>represents and properly utilizes multiple different typings without just resorting to "punching and kicking but [element]"
>each mon has a different body type, size, and even style of movement
>offers a unique gimmick over other fighters in the form of switching that also represents a major aspect of the series
>doesn't give favoritism to any particular member of the starter trio (anymore) due to including all three
I just wish newer reps were able to better take advantage of the fact that they're Pokemon reps instead of just being ordinary fighters that happen to be Pokemon.

Jigglypuff should have been Meowth or Togepi.
Greninja is a fine rep now because of retroactive shilling, but at the time he was kind of a weird pick.
Incineroar should have been either Rowlet or Mimikyu.

Also a small thing that's always bugged me was Ivysaur's inclusion when Bulbasaur was much more popular. I get the need for all three stages to appear, though, so here's an idea: introduce a PT echo fighter called Pokémon Rival or Rival Trainer (obviously Blue), and give him Bulbasaur, Wartortle, and Mega Charizard X. Alternatively, swap Bulbasaur and Ivysaur so that PT has Ash's original team and the Rival has one stage above everyone in base PT's roster. This does break the 3-stage chain, though. I just think it would be rad to have Wartortle.

I'd replace Pichu and Jiggylpuff, but they made sense at the time they were added. If I could choose, I'd have it be
