How can you people praise FRLG so heavily, but then criticize BDSP? They are equally as terrible, bland, and uninspired remakes. Love or hate HGSS, ORAS, or even LGPE, but at least all of these games made an attempt to be a different experience than what you could have previously had before.

Well, anon, what about FRLG would you call interesting or inspired? It is quite literally gen 1, forced away from trading with other games of its gen (which is an integral part of the series), with less varied environments that cause an already 'bland' region to blend together even more.

Yeah, after beating the entire game lol. Why do I care to trade anything into FRLG after I have done literally everything the game has to offer? Why would I not just trade everything from FRLG over to another game?

Also, I really don't have any images, but one thing FRLG did was turn every area into a place surrounded by forestry. In gen 1, we had a progression of open fields, to some wooded areas, to mountains, and it would change depending on the area. Along with that, different areas of the region would have different ground textures. FRLG attempts to do this kind of, but it just has weird pathways that don't look good?

On the other hand, the jump from gen 4 to 8 was mostly a graphical revamp. Otherwise mechanically the series pretty much stagnated since gen 5-7 were all more focused on introducing throwaway gimmicks. So there's much remakes could do besides a 3D coat-of-paint. So instead people expected at least something more like ORAS, remakes that fit in their generation, reinventing some features from the originals while including content from the new gens. But no, BDSP is basically a shitty 1:1 3D remaster of the originals. It doesn't fit next to SwSh, nor does it have any of the new content. It's not even possible in any way to play or collect new mons in those games to keep things refreshing. Unlike FRLG which were needed upgrades, there's very little reason for BDSP to exist.

For example, FRLG added mechanics and changes from Gen 3 that weren't already present in the Gen 1 games, e.g. Abilities, Hold Items, Breeding etc - but what's changed that much between Gen 4 and the remakes?

FRLG let's you play around with all Pokemon introduced at that point in time, granted you might need to unlock the National Dex or trade with a Hoenn game, but they're all there; BDSP no such luck, if they aren't in the first 493 you can't use them, they couldn't even be bothered to add just Sylveon to the game despite Eevee being readily available

Also it's no secret Gen 1 is a buggy mess and the remakes went around patching them all; Gen 4's bugs and glitches? All present in their remakes, plus some bonus softlocks they added in because they didn't account for the diagonal movement they added
