If you want a Mesoamerican snake that fits the starter theme, but fire instead, then there's Xiuhcoatl,
Xiuhcoatl is a mythical rattlesnake in Aztec culture (and some other nearby civilization's art, like the Mixtecs; it may have originated from the Teotihuacano war serpent), which is sometimes seen accompanying solar discs, and was wielded by the war god huitzlipotchli (sometimes the fire deity xiuhtecuhtli) as a weapon, either as a zoomorphic sun ray or atlatl; where it was used to defeat his siblings in a myth that's usually seen as an allegory for the sun's rise over the moon and stars.
Xiuhcoatl often has star/stellar motifs, and taube posits the "xiuh", beyond meaning turquoise and it's association with fire, could refer to meteors, and likens the darts it would fire as an atlatl to meteors or comets (some sources also tie them to lightning bolts, xiuhcoatl is associated with dry winter months, where lightning strikes can cause fires). "xiuh" can also refer to grasses or herbs, which ties into that, and the angular rattle on the end of it's tail can resemble depictions of flowers or reeds/grasses. It also resembles the glyph/motif for years or sun rays, and likewise Xiuhcoatl is associated with time, as are solar cycles, the fire drills, ritual hearths, etc.
Some sorts even note that Xiuhcoatl has some iconography likening it to caterpillars/worms rather then as a snake; as well as butterflies (which alongside hummingbirds, where unexpected animals tied to warfare)
