>>50476257>There was no ideological foil that called Ash's whole training style into question.Not the training part, but Guzma, a character that has continuously failed at his attempts to make it as a trainer, just like Ash, has, unlike Ash, grown bitter, jaded, and a sore loser, someone who makes excuses and runs away, scared of looking pathetic when failing to do something. Ash on the other hand is the polar opposite, learning lessons from his failures and looking and running forward, not back to his home to hide from current failures, but forwards to new discoveries. Their rivalries also serve to resolve the tension between Guzma and Kukui, as Ash serves as the proxy of Kukui's ideals. And Guzma's final resolution is to realize what's wrong with him, not run away from his fights and instead fight with his partner and be a proper leader to his crew that was drawn to him, kinda like the effect Ash has on his companions. That's a pretty good foil if you ask me. Also
