I think they definitely had the chops to pull it off, and I honestly think they were legitimately sabotaged by Game Freak.
I'm -absolutely convinced- Arceus was originally supposed to have been a remake, something happened during the development cycle and they decided to go in a different direction with what would eventually become Arceus. They knew they would miss the Christmas 2021 release and hastily hired ILCA to shit out a very basic remake for that season. The fact that BDSP isn't even complete on-cart is evidence that the game was rushed beyond belief, and considering Masuda was always looming over ILCA's shoulder I'm convinced some shit happened behind the scenes.
