>>50489198>I mean, realistically how many of the Pokemon that got Megas in Gen 6 actually needed them?I'm not getting into that, because it's too much cross-referencing, but I can think of at least two (Pinsir and Pidgeot) that benefitted from them.
I'm saying that from a design perspective not giving the Kalos starters Mega Evolutions was totally not stupid. It was actually for the best. There's no middle ground with this. If they get Megas off the rip, the Megas would have either have been way too powerful, or they would have brought the starters up to par, which means if Mega Evolution doesn't last (which it didn't), the Kalos starters remain underwhelming pending a stat redistribution retcon - and how often do those happen? Not very. We still have threads about Typhlosion and Ledian (I don't actually care about either of them, just citing them as examples). Can you imagine adding three more Pokemon to that frustration? And STARTERS to boot?
Besides, there's also the risk that if they made Megas for the Kalos starters, it would have impacted the base designs of their third stages. If Mega Evolution was removed, they would probably feel incomplete somehow. In the same way Diancie comes off as incomplete now that it can no longer Mega Evolve.
Like that other anon said, the only safe way to do it would be to introduce those forms in Z (or ORAS, I guess?) But that never happened.
