I would definitely count regional forms among the new Pokémon, or at least separate them from the other Gen I Pokémon in this specific case.

/thread reminder that Gen 2 didn't put extra focus on the new mons because it was a direct sequel to Gen 1, which caused TPC to treats the region like shit,, and lead to constant shitposts about ow Johto "hAs no IDENTITy" and "LeENS ON KANTOOO".

It's better to be sidelined by a mix of Pokemon than have them be sidelined almost exclusively by KANTOOOOOO filler like in Platinum.

Maybe true for Johto, but Kanto alone can't be the reason. 80% of Sinnoh's identity is Geodude/Graveler and fog, but it gets plenty of pandering.

Alola still has plenty of new Pokemon and new takes on Kanto (Alolan forms). Sinnoh has Zubat, Geodude, Bidoof, and Starly everywhere.

It's a late route Pokemon too in the original DP (Route 214, Route 215), just incase you didn't pick Infernape and need a fire Pokemon (it's the only other option).
