Remember when Gen 1 gave you dig, which in that gen was basically just a 2 turn Earthquake (the charge turn not mattering in single player since Ai never switch out), right after the second gym.

And then Platinum did it again except this time they actually gave you Earthquake.

Machop's base Attack stat is 80 which is far from piss poor, especially in the early gens.
You will literally never have to use Leer because Low Kick is going to easily fuck anything up that doesn't resist it.

You can buy Fire Blast/Thunder/Blizzard/Focus Blast by the third gym in DPP (fourth in platinum but pretty much the same thing) and in HGSS, why is this any different

My problem with gen 5 is the distribution. Almost nothing around the 5th gym and beyond is worth using because they evolve too late and aren't even strong enough to make up having to drag dead weight around. Almost everything good is at the desert.
