They should have just implemented or included dummy data for all the moves like they did in swsh in every game and left the EV system alone, from what I've read about what's going on that would've fixed everything except the spinda and the nincada line issue, which could have been avoided by just letting spinda appear wrong in bdsp and hardcoding an exception for duplicates in the nincada line. This is gen 5's word filter level of incompetence on a much larger scale.

Generations as a concept are dead and have been dead for a while now, they're just now fixing how transferring in and out should work. When we get 4 different 'mainline' games that do not have centralized theming or consistent Pokemon in them, it's a sign that the old way of doing things is completely over and that the label, even if they want to use it in marketing, is largely arbitrary. I don't think that's a bad thing however. Dollars to doughnuts when they do SV support you will be able to take Pokemon out from SV and into Sword/Shield if they are a part of the dex.

Effort levels and EVs are completely separate values. It’s actually IVs that affect the starting effort levels, with a starting effort level of 3 meaning the pokémon has an IV of 31 in that stat

EVs and IVs function just as they do in other titles in Legends; you even gain EVs from KOing pokémon as usual; they are just functionally useless until transferred to BDSP or SwSh

They could have just made grit level correspond to a certain number of EVs and cap them at the usual limits instead of letting you max out every stat, then it doesn't have to be a separate value that needs to be considered when transferring to the other games.

Neither BDSP or SwSh track effort values; they actually get wiped when a Pokémon goes into those games, and are backed up server-side, then restored when the Pokémon is transferred back into Legends.

The change of how data is stored in Pokemon HOME is also supports this.
All they have to do in previous games is modify/temporarily overwrite the met location to what Hisui Pokemon have in Sword/Shield.

And that's exactly the issue. Stuff gets stored server side but not retained between games so when you send it over it's not even a copy of the same pokemon you trained anymore, its a blank slate with a few similarities, so there's no point in transferring between games with the current implementation. If Legends just reworked how the existing stats were gained and used instead of adding something completely separate to do the same thing then there'd be a direct correlation between what you sent and what you pulled out in either direction so even if the mechanics are different it'd still clearly be the same pokemon you raised.

The teleporter, regardless of if the reassembled person is the same being or a copy, is at least an exact recreation. The Home transfer mess is a copy as that's how moving data around works, but it isn't even a good copy, it's parents finding their kid's cat dead on the patio while the kid is out then rushing to the pet store to get another of the same breed and hoping the kid won't notice the difference when they get home.

Gen 8 as a whole is just a mess:
LGPE only has 151 Pokémon, but also an exclusive nugen mythical for some reason
SwSh is completely arbitrary about which Pokémon is in the game. also some moves can't be used because...????
BDSP shouldn't exist, it is in a completely different programming language than mainline, also developed by not-GameFreak, only has the first 493 Pokémon
PLA is a complete rework of the formula, also is completely arbitrary about which Pokémon is in the game, has new cross-evolutions. it completely removes IVs (which is based) but also removes EVs and replaces it with something dumber àla LGPE (which is cringe)
It should not have any trouble trading with SwSh however, Home is just bullshit. Game Freak is also too stubborn to patch SwSh in a significant way.

I have a new leak for you.
In Scarlet/Violet you won't be able to trade or battle with the other version, even locally. This is made to promote Home. Battle functionality will be added to Home of course along with some functions that will let you quickly and easily modify a stored pokemon's IVs, EVs and movesets. Battles will be available in the basic version of Home, but modifying pokemon is only available with the premium plan. It will be pretty much like official Showdown (available on the mobile version as well).

The only thing that doesn’t carry over between games currently is movesets. EVs, IVs, Nature, minted nature, ribbons, etc etc etc etc carry over. Only reason Effort Levels don’t have any effect on stats outside of Legends is because they’re separate from EVs internally and also do not exist in other games.

Despite what people keep saying, I don’t buy it. The Let’s Go games were on new hardware. They are generation 8. The same with PLA. The mechanics of PLA are vastly different compared to the generation 8 games and look closer to the Scarlet and Violet trailers.

In general, the “generations” broadly follow the hardware:

Generation 1 = Gameboy
Generation 2 = Gameboy Color
Generation 3 = Gameboy Advanced
Generation 4 = DS
Generation 5 = DS
Generation 6 = 3DS
Generation 7 = 2/3DS XL
Generation 8 = Switch
Generation 9 = Switch OLED

This isn’t a perfect rule, but it appears to be true more often than not. Even with Sun and Moon, I can see the hardware upgrade. My 3DS has to restart every time I shut down SM or USUM, but my 2DS XL handles just fine.

Counter argument:

The Let’s Go games came out in 2018, a year prior to Sword and Shield. They were on the new hardware and obviously meant to be generation 8’s Kanto reboot. Let’s Go also directly interfaces with Home. SM and USUM need Bank as an intermediary. Let’s Go interfaces with Pokémon Go, a mobile app. What else is a mobile app? Home.

Let’s Go is obviously generation 8. I don’t see how anyone can seriously contend it isn’t. The generations are about more than new region announcements. They cover other things like changes in mechanics and how different systems interact with each other.

the line for a defined gen has been blurred so bad that, at any moment, the most current game it's the most "current" generation. BDSP is NOT a gen 8 game. It's a gen 4 game with current mechanics, but lacking a lot of practices made by the remakes before it. You can look at ORAS and you'll know it's a gen 6 game. HGSS is a gen 4 game. FRLG is a gen 3 game. And BDSP is a fleshlight cosplaying as a good remake (but it's still just a fleshlight)

And that's not to mention the "between-gen" 'Mons like Meltan/Melmetal or the Hisui evolutions. Is Enamorus a gen 8 'Mon or a gen 9 'Mon? They just exist in a bubble

Needles to say, everything is a title-exclusive shitstorm

because back when TPC Twitter was doing the "favorite of each gen" poll, Meltan/Melmetal was thrown into the category of "Gen 8/Other" and NOT gen 7.

Like, things got weird from USUM onward because we were so used to generational dexes being (mostly) "regional starters to regional mythicals" (with Victini being a weird exception for gen 5). Then USUM introduced some new UBs and then Alola's third mythical, throwing off that sequence where mythicals are put in the back. Then Meltan got introduced in POGO and the rest is history

Buldged inwards = GB game
Buldged outwards = GBC game
