Gen 1 lets you do this with Nidoking.
Gen 2 lets you do this with Graveler for Johto, Kadabra, Umbreon and Snorlax for the rest of the game.
Gen 3 lets you do this with Swampert.
Gen 4 lets you do this with Empoleon and Staraptor.
Gen 6 lets you do this with all the giftmons and static encounters.
Gen 7 lets you do this with an SOS Encounter Salamence.
Gen 8 lets you do this with literally anything thanks to EXP Candy and Max Raids.

That's so out of the way that I'm willing to bet less than 1% of players used it. You have to chain SOSs on Bagon, which is already a rare pokemon, in an optional area, and even then it's a rare summon.

Before fairy, dark/fighting just worked well together. Scratch is fat, but has a ton of strong moves/abilities to make up for power

The real gamebreaker in Alola is Malamar. Topsy-turvy combined with simething that has good coverage destroys any major battle, and Contrary lets you use your other 3 moveslots on ridiculous self-buffing attacks.

even the speedruns don't have that much trouble with it nowadays, let alone casual runs that would be way higher leveled at that point. mudkip is ridiculously good.

Sandile and its evolutions only really shine when you pit it against NPCs with multiple Pokemon to take advantage of Moxie (which in Unova is basically only Veterans, Gym Leaders, the Pokemon League and story-important characters), otherwise it's just alright.

These encounters unironically saved gen 5 for me, I wasn't enjoying any of the pokemon I'd found up to that point. The starters, monkeys patrat and pidove are still some of my least favourite pokemon

I wish they spread things out more evenly. Before the forest, almost everything sucks. After the 4th gym, almost everything sucks. Almost everything worth using is in the middle of the game.

Karrablast has a really awkward trade evo that you likely won't get to use. Axew is the best of those, the rest are okay. I'd say Golurk is acceptable too since it at least evolves reasonably quickly after you get it and you won't end up lugging around a base stage Pokemon to the E4.

A friend and I replayed BW2 recently and did that trade. I used Escavalier and it took down anything that didn’t have a fire move. Don’t discount it just because you didn’t use it. Pretty sure people knew how to trade on the DS back when the games were first out.
