they always seemed rocky textured to me
I think the pokedex mentions them being just gas bubbles with a thin layer of skin and I always refused to accept that into my headcanon

They've got to be soft because they expand when they breathe. I always imagined they'd be kind of papery like a Chinese lantern but that can't be the case.

that level of thickness seems what I would expect.
the "thin skinned balloon" description always threw me off since in the anime they seem heavy and always crash into things with force, they don't really bounce like a balloon mon would.

The anime gives them balloonish sounds when they bump into things and they pop in pokemon snap, but as a kid I always thought of them as hard anyway because >>50526588
