The animations were despised, lot of people complaining about Double Kick and the animation of that guy teaching the player cut. The game was attacked for dropping abilities and held items. The game was called easy and for babies. The Kantooooo meme started to blow up because of that youtuber who made that dumbass thumbnail. Wild battles getting dropped was disliked too. People didn't really like the Master trainer postgame either. The new moves like Baddy Bad were made fun of.
I remember playthrough threads of the game being rather relaxed though. People liked Green being in a pokemon game and coomers loved her portrayal. I remember people trying to figure out how to make Red spawn too. Riding pokemon were well received.
I'd say the reactions were pure hatred until the game released, then it slowly got more positive overtime. Now people go as far as to say LGPE are the best looking switch pokemon games.
