Ruby was my first pokemon game and I'd somehow got it into my head that if my pokemon fainted they'd die and if they all died I'd get eaten by the wild pokemon and the game would end. As a result I had autistically grinded my torchic up to a Combusken before the first gym. I faced minimal resistance with my stupidly overleveled starter up until the rain route. I didn't notice the rain was debuffing my now blaziken since I was still one or two shotting everything. Until this fucking breloom survives with a sliver of health and I get paralyzed. I dont remember if it was effect spore or stun spore but I had to watch my OP starter get whittled down by this stupid mushroom because paralysis kept proccing. By the time I was in the red I was nearly crying but I figured it'd have to let me act just the one more time I needed to win the battle. I didn't and once my Blaziken was down I wiped because the rest of my team was hilariously underleveled. I learned that day that you can loose a battle and the game doesn't end, which made playing less stressful since I didn't feel compelled to grind in the grass for several hours before each route. Years later I learned I had essentially attempted a nuzlocke as a 6 year old.
