>>50553966They're right. In fact, the originals were worse because at least BDSM had the decency of giving the player some qol changes. There wasn't a single moment playing Pearl where I wasn't wishing I was just playing Ruby/Sapphire. These games practically punish you for wanting to engage with them in any other way than the most barebones, basic as fuck playthrough and even then it bombards you with it's terrible design choices all the way to the end credits. What does Platinum even add that HGSS didn't keep? Contests? Getting poffins that aren't complete shit is impossible on single player even with the best berries in the fucking game and your best option is to ignore that mechanic completely and buy usable ones when you get to Veilstone. The Underground? Dreadful. Game Freak thought it was a brilliant idea to force this retarded mining minigame onto you to get the fossils and things like evolution stones when there was nothing wrong with the shards in RSE or just fucking buying them in FRLG. Most people just fucking migrated them from the Gen 3 games because it was just more convenient. That's really what Gen 4 is all about, looking for a compromise to avoid engaging with it's shitty mechanics and tolerating what you can't remedy by relying on another, better game. There's a reason the cliche of people using the exact same team during their playthroughs of Sinnoh games exist and it's because of the terrible Pokemon distribution. The kid that said he ran into a Bidoof in the Great Marsh was absolutely right when he said that was dumb as fuck because it is, every route has the same variation of Pokemon with maybe one new mon being introduced for you to bother yourself with catching and it's usually worthless shit you would never use. This problem persists all the way to Victory fucking Road.
tl;dr Just fucking play literally any other Pokemon game
