Cool in the first gen when the pickings were limited, but theres been so many cool fighting types added that a cotton ball with a pig nose just ain't grab peoples hearts as much.

Mankey is surprisingly thinly spread over the course of the series now that I look at it, it shows up early enough to matter in Kanto, Johto, and Alola. I'm curious how much of a critical hit machine you could make it in Stadium 1.

He deserved an ability like Gorilla Tactics. His whole schtick was being an angry retard.

Anyway, Mankey is an earlymon so he wasn't meant to compete with the likes of Machamp. Even Hitmonlee is better than it.

I like it, actually. I just haven't been able to use it for a few years (without importing one). It's a shame because they keep doing early game machops but Mankey would be better, since you'd eventually outgrow a primeape.

Powercreep hit it too hard. Not fast enough, not strong enough, too squishy in all accounts it's a worse passimian/Lucario it could really use an evolution or a Mega to help it up, but then again that applies to like 70% of the dex.

It's too unremarkable beyond its sole novelty of "angriest thing that ever lived" outside of a few niche cases, GameFreak's definitely keeping the line in mind to get the Regional Variant treatment though. Mono-Fighting isn't anything remarkable and they've been introducing quite a few of them that are bound to be rotating through Pokedex rosters.
