I’m sorry— why is Gen 2 such a volatile subject right now? You people are literally arguing over the same talking points people have discussed years ago. There’s nothing new you can bring to the table. Is it just passing the time for Scarlet and Violet or something? Or are you all just zoomers having your first discussion over it?

Lillie aside, I’d like to think Alola is a pretty fun region. Very few shitmon, interesting premises with the ultrabeasts and their native universes, refreshing take on the league/gym challenge, so on.

I think it is a meme more than anything else. Gen 2 has geniune flaws but you can't objectively say that it is the worst gen, O/A/C and HG/SS are some of the most loved games in the franchise and most Pokemon fans i know think that they are the best.

You don't understand, for instance yesterday I saw people being surprised at how much of Kanto was actually shrunk in gen 2. So it's a way to keep facts in check and get people thinking, if you don't remind them one day people will wrongly believe that the gen 2 games have 200% of the other games' content by nature of having twice the amount of regions when in fact at least one of them is nowhere near fully realized.

Even myself can pick up on new things that might have previously gone over my head. The current thread about the day/night cycles has got me second guessing things I had never second considered until this point despite theoretically me being fully familiar with the subject matter

I feel like more than anything else, people miss the optimistic feeling from gen 2. Was it flawed? Of course. But it added so much, it felt like a big upgrade, the series could only keep getting better and better. Gen 3 was good in its own right, but there was fear because of a lot of stuff that was removed. And now we're at Sw/Sh and it's hard to feel hyped for S/V coming from that mess.

It's odd seeing people repeat what I used to say back in Gen 4, it feels like some sort of vindication and yet it's about a franchise that is now at an ever lower point than just a poorly designed "open segment"

Unovaposting was going nowhere because unova fans are used to arguing about why their gen isn't bad. Gen 2 and it's fans aren't used to anything but praise, and it turns out it's pretty easy to get people riled up by just posting side by side images of Kanto
