Pokemania didn't stopped because of gen 3. It already started to fade away after the release of Gold & Silver, a fad isn't meant to last more than one or two years. No one bought Crystal (only 6 million copie sold), the GBA was already here and R/S got released shortly after it. R/S was more popular than B/W or S/M and sold almost as much as D/P.

There was immense pressure for Gen 3 to continue Pokemania while the competitors like Yugioh started flooding the shelves.

By all accounts, Gen 3 lost. It offered nothing original, it hyperfocused on unnecessary system changes and both the region & the Pokemon were trash.

Time killed Pokemania. Even then kids stuck to fad for year maybe two and then moved away. And new kids were attracted to new toys and products, not some artifact from 90s. It was just bound to happen that after Gen 2 interest in Pokemon dropped and only jrpg and anime nerds stayed interested.

Pokémania died because of Gen 3. They didn't know what to do to keep it and flailed around like retards. Most retarded decisions came in Gen 3.

Take a look at games, TCG, anime, manga and you'll see that they didn't have a direction, they were just trying things to see what sticked, while doing a subpar job and offering less than tbe previous iterations.

There was absolutely no reason Ruby/Sapphire didn't have a day/night cycle. There was absolutely no reason the TCG started powercreeping at an alarming rate and doing shit like Delta Pokémon. There was absolutely no reaosn to keep Ash in the anime. There was absolutely no reason for anything in the manga (specially fucking EMERALD).

This was the time "The Pokémon Company" came into existence, btw. A company made only to manage the Pokémon IP and licensing, and all of these shit decisions spawn from that.

Gen II did great and was loved by everyone who played it at the time, while Gen III was met with a "meh" even by hardcore fans. Of course Gen II wouldn't sell as much as Gen I, but that's because Gen I was crazy.

So take your revisionist shit somewhere else

Yes they did since it was the first far away region not connected to Kanto and changed up the cast. Also Masuda had roadmapped RS all the way to DP.
The lack of day night cycle was because most early GBA games used a bright color palette to help with being able to see the game on the non backlit screen.
Ash was kept in the anime for recognizable and mainstay Misty got replaced in favor of May to give the boys new eyecandy. Brock didn't need to come back but he was still sort of relevant as the remakes were a thing.

TPC was necessary for longtime success and it clearly worked. Even in the days of Crystal Shudo was told by Ishihara that pokemon would probably last another 10 years . OP is right in that the fad was simply dying out and conpetitors like yugioh and the return of star wars were rising in the west. If they did another Gold and Silver like game at the time critics would have called it lazy and feel fatiqued after Crystal which was already an underwhelming upper version

While I agree that I felt disappointed by RS on release after growing up with gens 1 and 2, I was also disappointed with Crystal, and barely anyone I knew bought it after GS. Yellow at least had the anime gimmick to excuse its release, and it was neat you could catch all the starters. But when I bought Crystal as a kid I felt ripped off, it was pretty much the exact same game I just played, and it set a poor precedent going forward. Anuways, my point is that I grew up with pokemania. while gen 2 gave a bit of longevity to the phase and created a buzz with new pokemon and a new region, it was still a fad that was on its way out, and by the time Crystal came out I knew only 2 people that bought it, the buzz had died down immensely. People liked gen 2 but a fad is a fad

Gen 3 was the worst. It ushered in the era of lazy soft reboots that were just reskins of the OG games. They added useless clutter to the dex, which became an issue later on. The dark ages started in Gen 3 and we didn’t get out of it till the start of Pokemon GO.
