Please gimme some anime with the main trio (Layton, Luke and Flora) travelling around anime France or wherever they are in the games. I heard they got rid of Flora later on too.
Layton is an example of Level5's ACTUAL mishandled franchise.

An anime is basically the success of a toyetic franchise, but the Yokai Watch anime was basically a SoL Spongebob-esque show.
Compared to the (then ongoing)XY ashnime, which has Ash doing soft shounen stuff, Gym Battles and epic League matchups, even the literal Kanto 1st episode was shounen as heck with Ash and Gary being rivals, Ash standing up to the Spearow flock, etc.
Yokai Watch really had none of that "soft shounen" edge, I don't see how it was supposed to mass appeal to the otaku crowd overseas who don't really relate to these cultural references without an actual historical context (like in Inuyasha) to support it. Bakugan, Yugioh, Sonic, etc. All that stuff had some relative edge.
Yokai Watch is too soft for your average foreign anime consumer.
