It seems like just the "Legends" games will feature such mechanics.

I'm fine with Legends being a separate continued series from the main generations, but it's definitely something worth continuing. Legends was the most fun I had with Pokémon in years.

If you watched the trailer, they showed the MC sneaking up on a pokémon, then immediately throwing a ball to catch it, as well as them saying your rival isn't very good at throwing poké balls. Nope. We lost seamless battles and seamless catches, we've gone RIGHT back to them taking place in their own separate plane of existence.
Sneaking's the only remnant, and it's mostly going to be used for overworld Pokemon who will otherwise flee when you enter their radius.

Concurrent developments don't mean shit, when Game Freak added overworld spawns from supposed "fan reaction to the mechanic in LGPE". maybe we do have transition screens again, because they added freehand throwing to the games as an option, LATE in development after reaction from Legends (an option to try and catch without battling or throwing a ball to start a battle.
I don't mind speculation, but the endless doomposting of retards reacting to teaser videos is fucking annoying.

This is a standard Pokemon game. It isn't like LGPE or PLA that were less like spinoffs, than, say, the Orre games, but more like spinoffs than most of the main series Pokemon games, which gave them room to experiment a little.

Actually PLA is the first pokemon game I bought since Sun/Moon. I pirated it first and when I realised that I liked it I went out to buy it since I wanted to encourage this direction for the series.

Unless you can go to any area you want right after the tutorial then it's not open world. You're always forced to play the game in the order the main quest forces you to play. You can't go straight to the snow area without having to finish the areas that come before it
