>>50600583The real answer that no one would take seriously is that in contrast to other RPG games, Fire/Water/Grass represented a perfectly balanced SPECIAL form of offensive moves early in the game that would carry you around. You would most likely find Physical offensive pokemon for a while, because these 3 initials are your bonus to tackle the world. The more you progressed the more diverse and complex typings you'd find.
If you use any other triangle you can't depict the same intended effect. Pyschic triangle is regarded as an advanced typing, you rarely ever get it early or rather, quick. Which is why grinding the Caterpie carries you a lot. It was that strong. Meanwhile the other typings were either a mix of physical and special or just physical.
They sticked with this pattern for 3 generations. Now you can argue that due to the stats split, this doesn't hold anymore. But at that point tradition had already ingrained. There's also no gameplay reason to change how this works, because other than making it different just because, you're not offering any honest reason to. It isn't broken, no need to fix it
