Plus Pokemon at least used to be this immersive world your could really imagine yourself in, which still somehow elevates the games above the sum of their parts even if that world was irreparably ruined in gen 6 and 7.
Also all other monster training games either suck or lack Pokemon's appeal.
Despite everything, I still enjoy playing these new games. Even if I can go back and play my older games and be instantly reminded how much better they are (outside of some annoying delays in menus)
