Do people actually like these new Pokemon or is it just a cope? These are very mediocre designs and I don't know how there's any hype for it at all

I never in my life heard of "chonk" before Lechonk was revealed so the annoyance misses me. It took me a few days to note the "smol" in smolive since too So all in all their names aren't making me like them. I guess the thing that has me somewhat okay with them is that they look better than what was initially revealed for SWSH. What did they show fist in gen 8, Gossifer, yamper, Duraludon and rolycoly, right? Sinistea maybe? All pokemon that didn't excite me one bit. These guys look like they have potential to turn into something good, save the fucked up pikaclone that looks solid in 2D but shitty in 3D.

Think the anime being good makes me excited to the games too for some reason.

I like that the designs are simpler. Better than overdesigned crap that's combining some animal with a profession and then giving it an outfit and gear. This is just a pig. It looks like a muddy-faced pig. That's good. It doesn't need hair that looks like a chef's hat and an apple ball gag and a tail that looks like a skewer or roasting spit.

I like it as much as any other piece of early-game trash, which is to say I don't really give a shit about it, but it was clearly designed by Game Freak, thus fits within their fantastical menagerie so it doesn't bother me.

Thanks for the memory jog, Anon. Remember not liking anyone save Corviknight and Wooloo partially. Then the others were revealed and it all went downhill. Hopefully the next released pokemon go past a "meh, acceptable".

What do you want me to respond with, stranger? "I have standards and blah, blah"? Want me to go into, I dunno, the literature I read to prove I'm an adult or say it's not made for kids? It's a series for kids and I like it, and I exist to simply enjoy life in every way I can. Including watching a t.v show made for kids. And posting about that show on weekends.

I will push back against one thing though: in my opinion the anime is made for the 7-13 crowd. Kinda amazed at how big Sun & Moon is still big with my students that age.

Enjoyment is one of those things in life that's subjective. People like different things, we know this. Someone's "soulless", whether that be music, art, literature, or visual media, is another person's delight. I can go in and list what I like about the series currently, but it honestly doesn't matter in this conversation. I enjoy it, simple as that. You consider it soulless, and you know what- okay. Call it soulless, call it having shit standards- all good. I'll just still be over here just enjoying it.

Most designs have felt 5 revisions short of looking good the past few gens.
Some of the legends are cool conepts but they feel forced. I wish we could just not have them forced into the main story, and I wish they were actually tied to the folklore of the countries that the games are based on, instead of random other places.
