Since they removed Hidden Power, fairies that didn't already get Flamethrower would have been shit. It was a better decision for balance than it sounds.

Because steel was already incredibly good defensively and they wanted fairy type to be a reason to use steel type moves, not more of a reason to use steel defensively.

Fairies are so OP that they're still OP without any coverage at all.
The type needs to be nerfed to the ground as is, not having a bit of coverage isnt going to make much of a difference.

Fairy was such a poorly thought out type.
I get what they were going for. Dragon, Fighting, and Dark were some of the strongest types in gen 5. Poison and Steel were some of the weakest (offensive) types.
In theory, this change would've balanced them out, but in practice, it just makes Fairy way too good because it counters the best types and is only countered by the worst ones.
If Fairy had 1 or 2 more weaknesses to more common types, I think it would've been much better balanced.

Judging types in a vacuum is brainlet shit, Dragon is a shit type but the mons who have it generally have amazing stats. Fairy is an amazing type but the mons who gave it are generally bad. The exceptions are legendaries

Just looking at the type chart reveals bug is literally the worst type offensively and one of the worst defensively. Any bug pokemon that's good is good is spite of it, not because of it.

Assuming you take in account the 0.3x chance to get a second turn for free, Iron Head has 104 BP which is higher than Earthquake.
Not always relevant, but in cases like Excadrill where you're ok to sack it but you do absolutely want to keep it as a revenge killer, it's incredibly broken.
Not to mention Steel type has 10 resistances and 1 immunity, meaning it can switch on anything - and GF really does like to give it secondary types to have both insane defense and offense.
Like in the current dex, there are only 9 mons that resist both Steel and Ghost, three are LC and only one is OU viable.

Standalone is sucks yeah, but at the same time if you made a Bug/Steel fatmon with recovery it would be extremely good. (cg Mega Scizor I guess)
