I've warmed up to it, but I still agree it's a confusing design. It has such a mishmashed design. The legs are especially questionable. Yes, I know it's for riding its mounts and kind of resembles a spinal cord, but doesn't change how bad it looks on its own.

I still want to know what was the purpose behind its squished head. It's even more confusing when the evolutions have some of the best designs of the generation, and aren't different enough to make it seem like a matter of different designers entirely.
