If Kaizo enforced level caps, didn't give you absurdly strong mons early on, made the maps actually tough to traverse, prevented items in battle, did blatantly unfair things (gauntlets, field effects, 12v6 double battles), maybe enforcing harsh rulesets like permadeath or nuzlocke, if it did stuff like that then that would be the right direction. But SHF is too lazy to actually implement any of that and instead goes for the most braindead methods of trying to stack on difficulty which then don't actually make the game difficult.
