japanese, at least with most anime styled works, go nuts and make eyes bigger or noses lower because thats typically associated with cute things in nature
though that statement doesn't really apply for japanese artists who don't draw stylized like that
i've also seen japanese artists who draw how westerns do and vice versa so it isn't even a hard and fast rule to begin with
