Considering the only generations to lack new fossils were II, which had direct sequels to RBY, and VII, which takes place on the volcanic islands of Hawaii, I’d say chances are pretty damn high. The real questions are whether Hitoshi Ariga will design them a third time in a row and whether there will be a big twist or not.

Make it a, fukkin, I dunno, triceratops, the past one just resurrects the fossil, the future one reanimated it as a badass cyborg, with a laser canon. Also makes it the first non-rock Fossil, it gets Steel instead. Gives off Genesect vibes.

If they're doing past/future forms cause of the gimmick this could be the gen we get fossils in their original typing. No new fossils to make room for Dragon/Flying Aerodactyl and Grass/Water Cradily

In that case it will only be something like Galar chimeras or genesect, fossilmon have the rock type as a reference to the real life fossilization process (The only exception being Aerodactyl as a reference to Jurassic Park and possibly the only one whose original type was always rock )

Doubt we will, they tend to keep living stuff form the here-and-now of a region (even the Hisuian forms will apparently have some explanation as to why they show up in SV (I'm betting the DLC may include an area where they live wild, like the fossils in CT in Galar too). Long-dead stuff tends to only surface as fossil revives.

If they wanted to emphasize the supposed geological recency of the Hawaiian/Alolan landmass, the fossil Pokémon should have been a moa-nalo duck that turns into an actual moa, maybe with some dodo traits. Something that could evoke recently extinct island large birds in general.

cool concept but terrible execution, kinda like regional variants, it took several tries to get them kinda right, maybe if they keep that trend for fossil mons they'll get it right by gen 10.
Although i'd rather have extinct animals from the paleozoic era than more generic looking dinosaurs, a giant ground sloth would be super cool

I'll hate that, I want to see their original forms just for lore wise, so a non-playable image or museum reconstruction would suffice for me.
