So Alain was brought back for a combination of reasons:
>They ran out of Champions and decided to fill the last slot with a league winner, Alain being the most recent and most notorious outside of Tobias (who isn't really a character, just a plot device)>He's the only notable Mega Charizard userI don't expect Alain to be completely curbstomped like he did to Trevor, but it will definitely set the tone of "Ash could never beat Alain and his Charizard, and Alain lost to Leon, so what chance does Ash have against Leon and his even stronger Charizard"
