Disagree on the basis of Spamton.
People draw very nice, attractive art of Spammy that is completely on model as well.
But part of the fun of Spamton is how pliable his design is. You can tell artists apart from the way they choose to depict him, and most of them aren't so egregiously off-model.

In a huge amount of cases I think its more about the brand and the attention it can garner than the actual character.
Like, Nemona is the most bland and personality-less rival we've seen since Calem/Serena and nobody actually thinks Sprigatito is fuckable without heavy anthrofication. But artists will still pump out pics of them by the thousands because pokemon is a massive brand and you'll get thousands of followers just by being one of the first people to slap the newly announced character/mon's head onto your pre-drawn beach ball tits template body. Actual interest or liking the character has almost nothing to do with it

Well, duh. Piggybacking off an existing world and its characters is literally one of the main ways in which artists earn followers.
If you want the endless stream of badly drawn smut by cheap hacks to end, just support proactive copyright enforcement and internet upload filters :^). Of course that would also mean getting rid of the nice on-model fan-art too.

Artist here. This is mostly true (especially of the more notable "pop" artists) but not 100%. A lot of artists do legitimately enjoy the base design and alter it in order to fit their artstyle better, because obviously not everyone fits perfectly into how Sugimori draws things. Usually they aren't the ones posting fanart within an hour after a new trailer though,

No it isn't. If the design wasn't actually attractive as a base, there'd be no compulsion to draw it. Adding in features you like doesn't mean the base thing is bad. Not to mention that the way fan artists draw characters with bigger breasts or hips may just be how those characters naturally manifest in their minds. It's just their interpretation of things.

If you think women are attractive, you imagine it with womanly features and anthropormorphicize no matter how non-humanoid it probably is. It's not until later in life you start to diversify what you find attractive and keep or leave out certain traits.

Funny, if Undertale/Deltarune fans weren't so unhinged and the fanbase uninhabitable I probably would have liked Spamton a lot more, but I can appreciate that a lot of Spamton fanartist seem to understand why he's appealing and don't gloss over the "unattractive" parts of his design.
