Raids are good but the best raid was the Mewtwo one on Pokemon Day in 2020. That one was actually challenging and had people plan out their team in advance to get a shot at completing it and every other raid is something that doesn't matter whatsoever other than to get Pokemon with HAs. The concept of raids comes directly from Pokemon GO, and unless they're actually difficult, they do not pose any sort of meaningful purpose. It would have been great if there was at least an additional ribbon for completing a certain number of raids with one Pokemon as an extra challenge or something to that effect.
Wild Area(s) are fine, the DLC areas did the concept a lot better than the base game. Once again, the Wild Area seems to be a place where they could dump the entire dex due to weather specific conditions. I have never really enjoyed open world games to begin with and I am much more of a proponent of making every route has some value over revisiting to get a particular species. I think Hoenn did this well with Secret Bases and some of the older regions with trainer rematches (which are also things that have been mysteriously absent).
I enjoy Sword and Shield if for nothing else the multiplayer support and the accessibility of building a team, which I know isn't for everyone since most people use Showdown anyways, but if I'm going to play a game, I'm going to play a game and not a simulation with some changes for a game. The problem with this is that once the new big games come out, Sword and Shield lose their value.
