>>50699960>It has a simple concept, they're digital monsters, which is why their evolutions are set in stone since data can be modifiedmany evo lines have established "canon" evolutions. see: any protagonist mon from the anime,
>>50700418>Digimon at its core is about the ANIMEwhat. the games couldn't be farther from how the anime series work: evolution mechanics, the role of your party games (they're generally mimes in the games, barring the WonderSwan RPGs), plotlines (barring the digimon adventure PSP game), etc.
Pokemon games fall way more in line with the anime (trainer captures and trains pokemon, earns badges, challenges league and champion, does some side quests, and tangles with the local crime syndicate).
>>50700563>There's been many examples in this threadThe central theme is the digimon/tamer dynamic: You raise them, they fight, they get strong, they evolve. What happens and how the setting works varies per game. There's no reason why every season/game can't be detached from the others and has to follow the same cookie-cutter plot over and over.
Think of it as following a formula similar to Jojo's: there are some recurring elements to draw upon such as the Joestars, the Zeppelis, stands and/or hamon, a sadistic antagonist, parts are linked together to varying degrees, etc. Digimon has its own set of 'recurring elements', despite series generally occurring in their own separate continues. Hell, there are often cameos from the anime in plenty of games.
>>50701152Not that anon. Plenty of digimon have their own goals. Barring 'muh chosen children' plots, digimon get to choose who to stay with (see Digimon Tamers, Savers, Xros Wars, a good chunk of games, etc.)
