PLA was mostly about catching, so that mechanic made sense. Mainline games are mostly about battling, so it makes sense that you're forced to battle the wild pokemon. Maybe picrel is a game better suited to your particular tastes.

It's not. Open world is the opposite of SWSH 2.0. and even proposing otherwise, it would be SM 3.0. (4.0 because USUM)

No one cared when Gen 7 didn't meet expectations Gen 6 set, or when Gen 6 didn't meet those from Gen 5.
The only time a game has gotten critical reception in this hellhole of a series was SWSH being a direct continuation of what Gen 7 set.

Did you forget? SWSH scored high across various game journos because those guys only played the campaign. And the campaign, lacking as it was in any real depth, was enough of an experience to lose yourself in it for a while

They liked it because journos don't want to play games, they just want to mash A through it and meet their quota. Pokemon games from Gen 7 on allowed them to do that.
