Same, I think most people who played the games would agree, the Kanto part of the game is weak, even when they restored most of Kanto in HGSS, the meat of the game is still in Johto (which makes sense due to Johto being the new region). The Kanto segment works fine as a postgame bonus (which is what it was always meant to be).

Weird. The Kanto section is the part I look forward to most in my Johto playthroughs. Having an entire region almost completely open with loads of trainers and an extra set of Gym Leaders you can do in any order you like is perfect for me.

Improved upon by being made in gen 3 with all that entails. Includes an optional post-game with Johto mons to extend playtime.

Stuck with shitty gen 4 psuedo-3D tiles, and lifeless Pokémon sprites. Terrible soundfont that made the music bland (luckily GB sounds was implemented but it was post-game so it didn't matter). The most atrocious menu and battle UI in the franchise's history. I could go on.

Objectively ruined everything that was good about gen 3, worst remake

Haven't played it, but it forces you into a shit starter and GO gameplay. Hard pass.

Haven't played it, but from what I've seen it looks faithful. Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

And there's all the stuff Gen 2 has over FRLG in general:

>music that doesn't make your ears bleed
>cross-gen evos

And I don't get why people complain about the Kanto Gym levels being even in GSC/HGSS, since they are at the perfect level for where you're at in the game. By the time you beat Lance you will be 39-41, and the Kanto Gyms are on average 44-48. By the time you get enough EXP to reach the high 40s you will be on Blaine and Blue who are 50 and 58 respectively (which, by the way, refutes the entire argument of there being no level progression in Kanto in GSC/HGSS).

If the BF is the only good thing about gen 3, then yes. But other than that, it's a nice remake which fixes many problems, is faithful enough where it needs to be and adds (or keeps) some of the best QoL stuff in the entire series (DexNav, Soaring, BSS, enhanced Secret Bases...)

Do you skip all non-mandatory battles and wild Pokémon? By the time you beat Lance your team will be at his level at worst, which is around late 40s-50. So after a couple Kanto gyms your team will already be at the late 50s and when you reach Blue you will overlevel him anyways. I enjoy HGSS and Kanto as a concept, but I always end up my playthroughs with a very overleveled team
